I guess I could race 4x4 open. I've only had one race so far so I'll be an expert by then ;D
Its hard to understand all these novice, sportsman, expert and open class. I'm my mind open means anything goes. This is a disadvantage to me. I can only run 2s in my truck. I've raced against some 3s buggy tires truck, on a club level I think as my skill level increases this won't make a difference. However at a big race if I'm running a roar legal truck and there running a 2 turn 550 motor a 3s lipo, and buggy tires, at that skill level I'll get destroyed.

Well dont take me wrong im not telling you not to run the Novice class. Its just something you would have to discuss with Bubba over there.
As far as battery goes 2s is all you need and I think ROAR rules state a 2s max.

No, running in a higher class isn't a problem. I'm just sayng that I'm new to Short Course and far from an expert. I did race in the expert class this pass weekend (only SC class) and was more or less lap traffic. I'm sure I'll be better by then if I go.
The point I was trying to make is I've seen beginner, novice, sportsman, expert, pro and open used to describe classes in RC races. I can understand beginner, novice and expert its pretty self explanatory, however that is not how most RC venues structure there classes.. When I hear open class in automobile racing its normally an anything goes class, engine size etc doesn't matter.
So when I read open I thought that a 4s lipo, buggy tires etc goes. I was simply stating that I built my truck around roar legal competition rules. In the last club race there were some 3s lipo and buggy trucks racing. I don't think at club level it matters to much but for a major race I'd take my chances in a class that I stood a chance. Hence the post I made earlier. Sorry if it came across wrong.
Simply saying that the RC community needs to get a standardize class list that covers on road to off road racing. Weather that's
Beginner,Novice, Expert Novice, Sportsman, Expert Sportsman, Pro, Open
all this make my head spin..

I sent Bubba a message asking him about the rules for the Open SCT Class. He said they will be following the rules that only SCT tires and wheel are allowed and a max of a 2s lipo. Hop this helps.

Epic, the only place in the country that allows the buggy tires and 3s on short course is SCR. You have built your truck the correct way and the better you get at driving, the less it will matter what they are running.

That's a little far fetched that SCR is the only place in the country that that is allowed. What SCR does do is let the members decide on what the rules should be. I have run both ways and have settled on 2s and shortcourse wheels. If at any time the members that attend the meetings and vote on rules want to change it to a 2s limit and no buggie tires then thats fine with me. I will say this however, with the new Tekin Pro 4 motors out , the only advantage to running 3s is lower temps and longer run time, provided the motor is a low enough kv and geared properly.

As I started before at the club level, I don't have a problem. I love SCR!. I was only concerned about the open 4x4 class. I just wanted/needed some clarification..

Look, I am not trying to down scr on the way they run there sc class. As far as I am concerned, you can run truggy tires, cut a kleinpeter jug in half for a body and use a briggs and staton motor on it. I just think if someone wants to put a sc together, and wants to race at other places, then he should stick to the roar rules. By the way, I checked all the other tracks in the country and also south America, and I was right!

I would imaging that that would be the minimum requirement at all big races, where club race rules will vary more from place to place. Sent from my PC36100 using ProBoards

I got the gym at Lea Joyner Memorial UNC spoken for us tonight. It's racing on hardwood. Bring your softest tires. We can use any thing on the tires as long as they don't leave marks on the floor. Also bring an old bald set of tires. If the soft tires don't work, I wll have some number 10 rubber bands that we can glue on the tires. That is what we used in the good old days to turn sub 5 second laps. Oh yeah, bring some simple green, it inhances the rubber band stickun. We will get started at 5:00 pm until 9:00 or whenever. The Church is located on old Sterlington Road just south of the hospital and next to Azalia Estates. Take the south entrance (next to Azalia Estates) and go all the way to the back.
