Hi all. I actually started racing while in the USAF back in 1988. Started with one of the original gold panned RC-10. Raced it for years in Newport News until I got out of the USAF. Kept racing when I moved to Biloxi Mississippi until I got hurt while at work. Been out of the scene for around 5 years now and just bought a new Schumacher Cougar KF2 SE thinking that the 1/10 class was still active. At this time I am in the process of buying a new 1/8 scale buggy and all the electronics associated with one. Wondering just how active SCR is and really would like a good set of directions to the track so I can check it and the other racers equipment out. I live in Slidell now and work on the Mississippi river as a boat captain so my racing schedule is every third week when I am off the boat.
Any suggestions on an 1/8 scale buggy would be appreciated. Thanks guys and hope to see you at the track soon.

Hey megamouse. I too have raced since the late 80's. Loupe's, Johnny V's, Pontchartrain Hobbies, Norm's on the beach... Perhaps we raced each other back then. My name is Jim Brown. I am the current president of SCR, although Dalton Hunt has taken the lead role in running the races over the past few months, and doing a fine job. We try to race every weekend, weather permitting.
The track is located just under the Luling bridge in Destrehan, LA, on the east bank side. There is a baseball park there, with the track located in the back, adjacent to the school. If you take I-10 towards Baton Rouge (from the Mississippi area), getting off on I-310, just past Kenner, it will take you right to the Luling bridge (about 6 miles of so off of I-10). Take the Destrehan exit, just before crossing the Mississippi River and take a right on River Road. As you pass under the bridge on River Road, you'll see the entrance to the East Bank Park. The track will be to your left, as you enter the park.
For 1/8th scale buggies, there are a few top brands that will perform well: Tekno, Losi, Kyosho, Mugen, Hot Bodies and Team Associated to name the brands you'll see racing at SCR. Some of the brands you'll recognize from your past. Of the new comers to the racing scene, Tekno makes very durable and capable off-road racing chassis'. I race both their ebuggy and etruggy. Very tough. Very tunable. Tekno takes pride in constant R&D, providing updated parts monthly as a result of their team driver's (Ryan Lutz and Joe Bornhorst) continued testing and racing. Tekno has a large presence at both SCR and FRC (Flowood RC in Flowood, MS - near Jackson, MS). Parts and setup advice are plentiful throughout the pits. Currently, Tekno's focus is only in off-road vehicles, 4 being 1/8 scale and their 1/10 scale off-road Short Course truck. They're very good at what they do.
My number is 225-806-7574. Call or text if you have any further questions. Hope to see you out at SCR soon.

Thanks for the info I may visit this weekend to check everything out. Just gotta decide on just which buggy to get now. Been looking at the offerings from Ofna and Mugen, but will look into the Tekno. I did race at Norms both on the beach when he was there and the indoor track when he had that one also. Was a bit disappointed when he shut down though.
